My cat's leg cracked when picked up, but she can walk. What's wrong?

I picked up my cat and heard a crack. She is upset when I touch her back left leg or pick her up so I'm pretty sure shes feeling pain there but she can walk fine

I'd rest Nala for now. No running, jumping, or playing. Keep her indoors if she is allowed outside. Monitor and if she still appears painful on Boxing Day, have her seen by a vet. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given.

Nala is a beautiful kitten and I understand that you are scared. At least you took it upon yourself to help save her and I appreciate that. Honestly, you probably can't tell whether it's broken or sprained. If she is dragging the left front leg, a few things come to mind. Those include some nerve damage or fracture secondary to some kind of trauma. Also, other trauma resulting in soft tissue damage could be involved also, as you have mentioned. Other possibilities include a developmental problem with the leg, an inflammatory process, or an infectious process. Your veterinarian would be able to do a complete physical exam and/or imaging studies (xrays) to determine the problem with the leg. Since pain is somewhat hard to determine, a visit to your local vet or emergency clinic is indicated. And if you are considering giving her an over the counter medicine, please consult a veterinarian for their advice before doing that. It's quite possible that when you take her, the clinic

Please have Loka seen by a vet immediately. She is likely in a lot of pain, and may have serious internal injuries as well if she was hit by a car. There are indeed treatments your vet can provide to help keep her comfortable. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for cats, so I do not recommend giving any to Loka without consulting with your vet. My kitten fell 2 days ago and hurt his back leg. I took him to the vet and they did an X-ray which showed no breaks. He is on pain meds through the weekend. He won’t use his leg really at all, won’t walk on it, but he lets me touch it and move it aro
Sounds like Garth is still experiencing quite a bit of pain. While there may not be any clear fractures, other injuries involving soft tissue structures such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles can be equally painful. There are also injuries to nerves that can result in pretty severe pain. Lastly, dislocations can also occur (particularly in the hip) that are extremely painful. However, that should have showed up clearly on the x-ray assuming they shot all the way up to hip joint. I would continue to give him his medication as prescribed and make sure he is rested and confined. However, if matters are not any better by the time the prescribed course of meds is complete, he will need to be brought back in to the veterinarian for reassessment.

Usually abnormal movement into abnormal position, swelling and pain (which your kitty may not show) are tell-tale signs. Keep Mao confined in a box with soft bedding and take him to a vet in the morning for an x-ray and stabilisation of the fracture as well as pain medicine.

Please make an appointment to have Narla seen by a vet, as limping like you described can be an indication of pain. This could be due to a muscular or nerve injury, trauma, some infectious diseases such as Lyme disease, or joint diseases such as arthritis. The gait you are describing could also be due to luxating patellas, a condition where the kneecap is not stable in the joint, or a tear of the cranial cruciate ligament (similar to the acl in people). Your vet can assess Narla by doing a physical exam, and will make recommendations for further diagnostics/ treatments as needed. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous and even deadly for cats due to toxicity, so I do not recommend giving any to Narla without consulting with your vet. My Lulu was fine earlier but my son was playing with her trying to make her walk on her back legs and now she is limping. Please help.
Poor girl. Limping is typically due to a musculoskeletal injury. As long as Luna is not howling in pain, lethargic to the point of being non-responsive, can put some pressure on her injured leg, and not vomiting, then she should be ok to wait until morning and have her seen by your vet. If something more than just a muscle sprain is suspected after she is examined, then the vet will likely recommend getting x-rays of her injuried leg to determine the extent of the underlying injury. Fractures are highly suspected if you see any noticeable swollen areas on her leg, but hopefully she has a minor injury that can be dealt with quickly. Its best to keep her in a crate or small room tonight, limit her interactions with any other pets, make food and water easily accessible so that you help reduce any chance of additional injuries to Luna, apply a cold compress for 5-10 mins tonight to any areas that seem painful, and then get her seen by your vet first thing tomorrow for further care/trea

Poor Raj! I do think taking him to the vet in the morning is a good idea. I would keep him quiet for tonight, maybe in a crate if possible. Keep him indoors if he's allowed outdoors, and have him in a crate or a small room. Try to prevent him from running and jumping as much as possible. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. The vet can provide him with some safe pain relief.
