Why are my new lovebirds afraid? How do I bond and gain their trust?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Female

Hello. I have two lovebirds that i think are female (since they sometimes fight a lot and suddenly stop). They are Peach & Coco. i got them about 2-3 weeks ago. I am wondering about why they are still not trusting me or coming near me (everytime i come near them they go backwards in their cages, because theyre afraid of me). Can you please tell me what i can do to bond more with them and make them trust me more?

Thanks for reaching out about Coco & Peach. Winning the trust of your birds will take time. Start with quiet deliberate movements, and offering treats via hand. Since many birds can be cage defensive, you might have to allow them to come out of the cage, for them to be less protective. Take the time, as trust can take some time. Good luck.
