Cat isn't eating after prednisolone. Is it time for euthanasia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

Hello, my cat started losing weight about a month ago. The vet said he had a fatty liver, an infection, and probable cancer. She prescribed prednilosone 10 mg/ml, once a day .5ml in a syringe. He hates it alot. He has been on this for 17 days, and he is still not eating, and hides. I do not want him to suffer needlessly. In your opinion, does it take this long for the drug to work, so that he will start eating again and feel better? Or, is it hopeless, and I should stop this torture?Thk

I am so sorry for what you and Leo are going through. If the prednisolone was going to work, you would have seen an improvement within the first week. I'm so sorry. You can seek the opinion of a veterinary internal medicine specialist to see if there is anything more that makes sense to try, but I do not think it is wrong to consider euthanasia. I am so very sorry. If you would choose to seek out a veterinary internal medicine specialist, you can find one here: https://find.vetspecialists.com/ Best wishes to you both.
