I am sorry Gizmo was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment will depend on: the type of cancer, the stage it is in, the size of the tumor and the location. It would be best to schedule a consultation with a veterinary oncologist to discuss any treatment options. You can find a specialist at the link below. http://vetcancersociety.org/pet-owners/find-a-vcs-member/

Unfortunately , without knowing what kind of cancer your dog may be suffering from exactly there is no way to give a prognosis nor describe treatment. Every cancer is different and treatments vary depending on the kind. Your vet will need to do a biopsy of the mass and send it in to a laboratory to determine whether it is malignant or benign and what type of cancer this is. He will then be able to discuss possible treatment options with you and will be able to give you a prognosis.
