My old cat has breathing trouble. Can I mix doxycycline & prednisone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | European Shorthair | Female | spayed | 18 years and 11 months old | 6.614 lbs

Hello, my old cat has had trouble breathing through her nose to the point she only has a tiny spot left open to breath through, right now she mostly breaths through her mouth. The pet doctor here thought it was an infection in the lungs and has gave me doxycline 50mg 8 tablets. I visited another doctor and said she thinks it could be a tumor in the nose because there is no snot leaking or coming out, so she gave her pretnizon, but she only took 2 dxyc, can I continue or not due to the pretnizon?

Hello. Make sure both doctors know that you are giving both medications. I would continue the Doxycycline & the prednisolone until you have spoken to at least one of the vets. It sounds like Doemoe needs either skull x-rays or an MRI to properly diagnose her nasal problem. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
