Cat still passing soft stool 24+ hours after enema. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

Our cat had an enema yesterdsy afternoon. Typically he stays drippy (sorry) for a few hours and by the next day is pretty much normal. This time, over 24 hours later, he is still passing small bits of soft stool every 30-45 minutes or so. No drips, just stool. He also doesn’t have much control over it, so he’s just kind of going wherever he is like he can’t stop it. How long should we be seeing this kind of behavior post/enema, if at all?

If it's been over 24 hours and Elvis is still going or having trouble controlling his bowel movements, I would let your vet know. It is possible there was a large enough blockage/stool amount in the colon that he still needs to pass it, however it's a good idea to continue monitoring him, and your vet may recommend a recheck or X-rays to see how much is left/if further treatment is needed.
