My cat hasn't pooped in two days. Is he constipated and distressed?

Pet's info: Cat | Munchkin | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat fell asleep under this ridiculously thick bed covering. He's done this before and would come out when it gets uncomfortable. But yesterday, he slept inside it for hours, when I finally pulled him out he was constantly swallowing. He still ate and drank (always was very picky), but appeared distressed and was constantly staring at my other cats. He sleeps a lot more, but is very energetic and perks up when a toy is brought. What concerns me is that he has not defecated for the past 2 days

That is very concerning, two days is a long time for a cat not to poop. At this point in time, this cannot be treated wit home remedies, and the best thing you can do for Roccoco is to have him seen by a vet to have this treated. I’d take him into a vet now.

Baby Yoda needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Any pet not pooping for 2 days needs to be examined as they may need fluids, enema, stool softners....etc. Constipation can get worse quickly so it is much better to take care of it earlier. Have her examined today. I hope this helps.

Constipation can be a very serious condition, it can be caused by a physical blockage (foreign body like a bone) or a functional peristalsis deficiency of the intestines. In order to treat simple constipation, you should increase the fibers in the food (e.g. canned pumpkin) and can add a little mineral oil to the diet. I strongly advise taking Remy to the vet in order to check if there is a serious condition causing the constipation first.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Butter. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian now. The longer she goes without defecating, the more serious it can become. She may need fluids under her skin to provide her with more hydration. If the problem is severe enough, then an enema will be necessary. I hope this information helps!

It sounds like Charlie may be constipated. I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian to check. If he is constipated he may need an enema and medication to make his stool soft. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

I would not necessarily be concerned at this point if Tony is acting normally in every other way. The only thing I would add is probiotic. I like Fortiflora but you can use any probiotic made for cats (no human products and no dairy). http://www.allivet.com/p-1890-purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets-fortiflora-cat-supplement-box-of-30.aspx This won't hurt anything and may help get him more "regular". Hello.. I can suggest some possible remedies, but they may not work & his constipation will get much worse while you wait. Honestly, the best thing to do is to have Lucky seen as soon as possible. As he continues like this, he will get sicker. If he is eating, you can try 1/4 teaspoon in some wet food 2-3 times a day, but if he has stopped eating, there is no way for you to treat him at home. My cat haven;t poop for 2 days, she started drinking and eating from yesterday but for past 3-4 days she wast not anything nor drinking. She haven't poop for 2 days. She went to washroom thrice but nothing happens. I am scared. :(
Straining but failing to pass anything can indicate severe inflammation, swelling or obstruction and should be checked by your vet, a rectal exam and possibly xrays of the pelvis would be required to investigate fully. It is a good sign her appetite is returning but I recommend a check up to be sure

How long can a cat go without pooping? It's been 24 hours which is unusual for my cat but I don't want to rush her to the vet if I'm being paranoid.
A cat can go up to 48 hours without pooping, meaning anything past 48 hrs is a cause for concern, especially if you see your pet straining to defecate and nothing coming out. Ideally every pet should have a bowel movement daily, however there can be some slight variations here depending on the GI transit time and diet. I would monitor for signs of straining and also vomiting, lethargy or lack of appetite which means that kitty should be seen for constipation/obstipation. There are also medications and supplements available through your vet (i.e. Laxatone or Lactulose) that can help keep the GI track moving along if this becomes a chronic issue. Also fiber supplementation can be discussed with your vet.

Poor Poof! I'd be worried there is something causing him pain ongoing, either with his mouth, or further into his GI tract, especially if his stools have changed and are very dry (which could indicate something such as constipation or dehydration, or even a blockage further up preventing eating/stool moving through properly). If he's gone more than a day without eating anything and is still exhibiting the behaviors you mentioned, it would be best to bring him into a vet ASAP for care. Bringing in a sample of his stool (if he goes again before the vet) can also help check for any issues such as parasites that could be causing GI upset.

I usually say if there's straining in the litterbox with little to no stool produced in 24 hours, or if there are 3 days with no stool (but no straining is seen) it's time to head to the vet. The fact that he is eating normally is a good thing since appetite tends to decrease with constipation. At any time if he seems painful it is best to go to the vet. You may want to check in with your vet and see what their criteria would be for when to head in - they know more about Bug's particular case and might make different recommendations.
