This could be a viral or bacterial infection that may need to be addressed by your veterinarian. There is likely nothing OTC that can be given to resolve it. An exam would be strongly recommended to prevent permanent damage or loss of vision.

Unfortunately this isn't something that can be treated at home, I would tell you if there was a home remedy. Pus does indicate an infection, and he has to see a vet. It won't be a waste of money. I hope this helps.

I think my cat may have conjunctivitis, does she need to see a vet or is it safe for me to go to the local drug store?
A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops specifically designed for dogs (on prescription). Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well, and this is probably the most important reason for her being checked. I am worried my cat has an eye infection. He is winking and has yellow/clear discharge and a runny nose. With jobs closing in my state any home or over the counter remmidies to help avoid a 100 dollar vet bill would be extremely helpful.
Any eye issue warrants a vet exam. Since it is one eye it is more likely there is an injury to the cornea than an infection. I recommend you take him to the vet but if you want to try something for a few days you can use this eye gel. Hi. One of the feral cats I feed has a eye infection. Her eye is shut, not very swollen, not oozing any pus. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I can't afford to take her to the vet, and she won't let me near her. Is there anything I can do??
Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. A (outdoor) cat that has adopted our family has come back with a terrible eye infection. It looks swollen and the entire eye appears to be covered in a thick greenish pus, where you can't even see the eye anymore. Are there any over the counter thing
Oh, poor Oreo! His eye does look awful :( I'm afraid there is really no way around taking him to the vet for this problem, as it looks to be a pretty nasty infection - he definitely needs prescription antibiotics to treat it. There is nothing available over the counter that will help. The good news is, there is no reason that this needs to be an expensive visit - the only costs should be the exam fee, plus the cost of whatever antibiotic or other medication is prescribed. In the meantime, you can try gently rinsing his eye with plain saline eye wash and using a warm washcloth to clean away the discharge. This will not do anything to treat the underlying infection, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.

Cats can get pink eye that is typically viral in nature although bacterial infections is possible. Other causes of her symptoms include corneal injury (ulcers or scratches). Unfortunately. there is nothing OTC that you can use to treat her. Ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian and have the eye stained to rule out injury. Your vet can dispense the appropriate medication afterwards. Discuss payment plans or alternative financing options, such as CareCredit ( www.carecredit.com ), with your veterinarian. Friends and family can also be asked to assist you.

I would take Valentine to the vet. There aren't home remedies for eye problems, and because leaving eye problems untreated can lead to vision loss, it's very important to have your cat seen by a vet promptly. The tissue at the corner of the eye is the third eyelid protruding. The 3rd eyelid is visible when they pull the eyeball back into the orbit from pain. Also, they squint the eye when the eye is painful. Kazi really needs to see a vet for this. Poor kitty. Kittens will often get eye infections due to viral and bacterial infections. Usually it will start off as a viral infection with just watery clear discharge and then a secondary bacterial infection will develop, causing yellow or green discharge. Therefore we recommend antiviral medication such as lysine powder which can be found at your local pet store over the counter. However the secondary bacterial infection will need to be treated with a topical antibiotic ointment prescribed by a veterinarian. They will need to be seen to treat the secondary eye infections unfortunately because there are no over-the-counter options for this . You can look for low-cost clinics in your area or the Humane society that may be able to get them in and seen for a reasonable price. Hello! There are some stray cats in my neighborhood that I feed. One, I noticed the other day had mucous in the corner of her eye. She doesn't come around every day, but she came around this morning and the eye is now closed. I am worried about her.
It's always tough trying to deal with feral cats. The best option would be to take her to the vet (maybe they could spay her at the same time? Not all vets would be able to do that, but might be worth asking). The vet could sedate her, check out her eye, and vaccinate her for rabies at least. There is a risk of her biting, but we usually can take appropriate precautions to avoid this. If you do take her in, ask your vet ahead of time what preferences they have for type of carrier etc so that they have the best chance of successfully looking at her. It will probably end up costing you a decent amount of money to take her in, because of the extra time +/- sedation that will be required (plus costs for testing, vaccines, medications), so just be aware of that ahead of time. That said, to answer your question about care at home - she could have a viral eye infection (very very common in cats), or it could have gotten worse and become a bacterial infection or an ulcer.
