My cat is in heat and peeing in bed. Why and how to stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 6.6 lbs

Hello there. Noushi is in heat & she pees (urinates) in my sister's bed as well as in her litterbox. The other day she was about to do this when I caught her & she ran away then she immediately went to her litterbox & peed in there. Why does she do that & how can I stop her? Should I be concerned? Thank you so much for your help.

Unfortunately this could be related to her heat cycle (hormones), a bladder infection or a behavioral issue. Since she can’t talk and tell you what’s going on, I recommend to have her checked by the veterinarian for a bladder infection. You may also discuss having her spayed which will eliminate that factor as well. If the veterinarian suspect this is behavioral, there are many things you can do to help encourage her to use a litter box. Just post again. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
