Can a cat be happy alone if I work late and get home by 6 PM?

I dont have a pet yet .. but my question is that i am willing to get a cat or a pair since i live alone, however my concern is that i work late and usually home by 6 pm .. can cats survive like that ? Provided i will care for them with food and litter boxes. Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male

Yes, they can. Cats are quite independent and can look after themselves quite well. Access to an outdoor space would be ideal. If you have enough space taking two cats (take them when they are kittens) could be a good option.
