My cat has CKD. Can I split subq fluid doses for easier care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Korat | Male | neutered | 14 years and 11 months old | 9.6 lbs

Hi, my vet prescribed 100ml of subq fluids every 2 days for my cats with CKD. I am having trouble getting him to stay still for 100ml. 50ml is much more manageable for us. Is it okay to do 50ml twice a day every other day? Or 50ml once a day? Are there any pros and cons to 100ml every 2 days, 50ml twice a day every 2 days or 50ml everyday? Thank you.

It is perfectly fine to do 50ml's twice daily. That should be easiest. As long as the fluids are given within a 24 hr period, it is considered ideal. Best wishes getting Beau to cooperate for his fluid therapy with the new routine. : ) Take care.
