My dog chews hard. Are lacrosse balls safe? What if she breaks it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 56 lbs

Are lacrosse balls bad for my dog to chew on and play with? She is better with not so fluffy toys so I was wondering if it would be a good idea but worried if she breaks it up will she be okay?

I would be worried about chunks being tugged off and ingested, but if you regularly inspect the ball, it should be OK as long as its removed before it gets to a point where pieces could be eaten. Many pet stores also carry chew balls for "tough chewers" that are made out of safe, non-toxic material that may be safer to give as well.
