My puppy is sick, not eating, lethargic, and has diarrhea. What to do?

Hello!I have a puppy of labra of 40 days and he is sick from two days.He is not eating anything and he has bevome lazy ad feel sleepy.He has loosemotins and he do urine of dark yellow colour

Poor puppy. He is so sick. Because it has been more than 24 hrs with this pup, I would highly recommend taking him to your vet to be seen. He most likely has a serious illness that requires prescription medications and supportive care through the vet. I would have him seen today if possible. Until you can get him in, offer him some non-flavored Pedialyte diluted 50:50 with water to help keep him hydrated. Dehydration is the biggest concern with puppies at this age who are ill. I do hope that your fur baby Tiger feels better soon! Best wishes and take care.

    Sorry your new baby is not feeling well. It is a bit concerning that you say he is weak. The diarrhea alone is not an emergency, but depending on how weak he is, maybe this is an emergency. If he is pale, unable to stand or have breathing difficulties, then I would seek help ASAP. If he is just blah, tired but otherwise normally responsive you can probably wait until tomorrow. Your vet will likely want to check a fecal sample and if you are able to take a fresh one that would be a good idea. In the meantime, keep him hydrated and continue to offer him small amounts of food every couple of hours.

For this reason, I recommend that you have Tiger evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. It always concerns me when young puppies get lethargic. Puppies are more susceptible to the effects of dehydration and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) than adult dogs, so diarrhea is more serious for Wallace than it would be for an adult dog. If he's back to acting normally, eating, drinking, and doesn't have further diarrhea or vomiting, it's perfectly fine to continue monitoring him at home. However, if he remains lethargic, has more mucousy diarrhea, begins to vomit, or refuses to eat or drink normal amounts, then you should have him examined by his vet. Your vet will need to do a physical exam. Depending on their suspicions based on their exam findings, they may recommend some diagnostic testing or may opt to start him on some medications. Possible causes of this type of issue include stomach upset from a virus, intestinal parasites, among many other issues. If your vet finds that Wallace is dehydrated, they'll also be able to give him some fluids. I hope that he feels better soon!

A sudden change in diet can lead to these GI symptoms, but so can an illness. It's quite serious that she's now not eating, is lethargic, and won't eat the bland diet. I think she is sick enough to require a vet visit immediately. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

My 9 month old patterdale vomited on wednesday morning, and then last night has watery stools, he wont eat and will hardly drink and is very lethargic, i cant afford a vets treatment
Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear Texas is not feeling very well. Vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, and decreased appetite are very concerning signs and have many causes behind them. Infectious causes, internal organ dysfunction, or a foreign body or GI obstruction could be at play. Texas is really better off in the care of a veterinarian today as a veterinary hospital will be able to diagnose and treat Texas effectively and give him the proper care he needs. If a vet isn't an option, there are not a lot of home treatments for these symptoms. Try and keep Texas hydrated to offering water to him frequently and offering him unflavored pedialyte in his water may help as well as feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. I would recommend that Jack get checked out by a vet as soon as possible. If he can't keep down fluids he will become dehydrated very quickly. He may have stopped eating while you are gone because he missed you, but it might have also been a coincidence in timing and that is just when he started showing signs of illness. Vomiting and lethargy in a puppy can be caused by dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection (such as parvo virus), among others. After a thorough medical exam and questions on his vaccination history, the vet may recommend diagnostics such as bloodwork, parvo testing, or x-rays to see what could be causing his illness.

Poor Terry sounds very sick. I see that he's a young puppy as well, and I'd be concerned that he doesn't have all his vaccines yet. He could be suffering from parvovirus causing his symptoms. Other causes include a severe GI illness, eating something rotten or toxic, or a foreign body. He sounds sick enough to need veterinary attention now. Please take him into one immediately.

Vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy are very concerning in puppies as they may be a sign of a potentially life threatening infection - parvovirus. Other conditions such as intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, foreign body obstruction, or intestinal torsion can cause these signs as well and all require veterinary attention. Puppies can become dehydrated very quickly, and Chewy may need supportive care. I recommend that he is seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, preferably within the next several hours. There could be a couple of things wrong with Tank. It could be that he is suffering from a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have intestinal worms, or could have a foreign body causing the diarrhea. It is concerning that he's acting lethargic, and given that he has now diarrhea for 24 hours and the bland diet isn't working (the lethargy shows he's not feeling better), I would say it's time for a vet visit. Give your vet a call first thing in the morning to get him seen. Best of luck.
