My pet took gabapentin. How will they feel and how long will it last?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 19 years and 11 months old | 9.5 lbs

My vet had me give Tony a 1/2 gabapentin capsule this morning at 7am before his 9am blood pressure recheck in hopes of calming him. How will this make him feel and how long will the effects last? Thanks

Gabapentin can be very useful to reduce anxiety and stress in cats (which can give high blood pressure readings in themselves) and generally only lasts a few hours. If he is disoriented or confused contact your Vets office to discuss his case further
