My cat is blind, wobbly, and has high blood pressure. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 14 years and 11 months old | 13 lbs

I just noticed about an hour ago that my cat doesn’t seem to be responding to anything visible. She is walking a bit wobbly and running into things. Her pupils don’t retract when exposed to different light levels. I do know that she has high blood pressure and has had it for at least a year. The only place I could currently take her in my area is a 24/7 trauma vet or I can make an appointment with a vet in the morning. I gave her her blood pressure medicine but she hasnt been taking it regularly

This sounds like she may have retinal detachment which can be a result of uncontrolled high blood pressure. The blindness may be permanent. I would absolutely take her in right away since she has other symptoms also and the sooner she gets treatment the more likely she will be able to recover.
