Why does my senior cat have nose crusts, eye issues, and bad breath?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 16 year old cat has crusts growing from the side of her nose, it has pulled down her eye & caused bloodshot & watering. I brought her to the vet before the crusts developed & she said she has cancer & an infection in her mouth. She also told me she was blind. She had antibiotics twice but the crust is growing, Her breath is awful, She had blood work done & it did not show cancer just an infection. I need a new vet as she gave her no hope. She is acting completely normal, good appetite, sees

Without images it is very difficult to assess what may be going on. It would be worthwhile getting a second opinion but a tumour in the mouth or sinuses may well be affecting the drainage from her eyes or nose and may be contributing to the signs you can see, an the smell you describe is likely related to an infection or damaged tissue. A sedated oral exam and xrays or CT scan would help to investigate everything that may be happening, including tear production and drainage which may be contributing to the crusts and blood shot eyes
