My dog's Frontline Plus isn't lasting. Can I use Capstar for fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 49 lbs

I use Frontline Plus spot on flea treatment on my dog for flea control. One dose is supposed to last for 30 days, but recently I noticed that after about 12-15 days my dog starts getting fleas again. Is it safe to use Capstar (nitenpyram) oral flea tablets in between doses of Frontline Plus?

Capstar can safely be used with Frontline. That said, switching to a different topical (they can become ineffective after a while of use) or addressing the house, bedding, etc for places flea eggs can sit may help reduce reinfestation in the future.
