Pregnant guinea pig: Is male separation okay? When will she deliver?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 1.318 lbs

Hello I have two questions The first one is I have a pregnant guinea pig and I separated her from the male The male is in another cage beside the cage of the pregnant guinea pig but I’m feeling that the male guinea pig is feeling sad is it ok for him or it’s just me. The second question is about my pregnant guinea pig her pelvic bones are one finger apart does this means that she is going to give birth soon?

Hello. I advise keeping the male & female separate until the pups are of a little size. The pubic bones start to separate 3-4 days before birth & stand apart 1-2 cm at term. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
