My rat is skinny, hiccuping, and has mushy stool. Is it Mycoplasma?

Hello Petco Pet Education Center Staff, My rat Artemis has been skinny and has been having loud hiccuping, since I got him. He also has had mushy stool. He previously had a UTI. I'm concerned about him, but I have been sceptical about taking him to a vet, since I'm afraid that they will be unable to help him or that I may be unable to afford his care. So far I have been buying him medication online, since I fear that he has Mycoplasma/ Mycoplasmosis. God bless you, Brittany God bless you, Brittany

Hello. It does sound like Artemis has an upper respiratory infection. Giving the wrong medication is just as bad as not treating at all, so it is best to have a veterinarian examine him. Before agreeing to any diagnostics or medications, make sure they give you a written estimate so you can see exactly what this might cost. Then, do the best you can to try & help your little friend. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
