My cat had a sudden aggressive attack. What should I do now to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 12 lbs

Hello, My cat just had a very hysterical aggressive anxiety attack just an hour ago, where she hissed, screamed and tried to attack my mother. She has calmed down now, but she is seeking us out wherever we are in the house (we tried to go away from her to give her some space), and when she does that, she becomes aggressive/afraid all over again because of us. It’s not only my mother, but also me. Do you have some ideas for what we can do in this situation? Kind regards, Emma

Hello. The biggest problem is trying to identify or understand what set Daisy off. Perhaps an odor or sound, or she may have sensed another cat outdoors that frightened her. Since it can be difficult to know, the best thing to do is be proactive. I would immediately purchase a couple of Feliway room diffusers & put them in the room the incident occurred, & any other rooms Daisy frequents. Feliway emits a cat appeasing pheromone which can calm a nervous kitty. You can buy these online or at most pet retailers. Start with this along with a good physical exam by your veterinarian. It is possible that she could have an underlying condition like arthritis or even a urinary tract infection that caused her significant pain. Hopefully, this will never happen again. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
