What causes blisters on my dog's mouth after moving to a new home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | unspayed

What could cause blisters around my dogs mouth? She's not showing any abnormal behaviour, but these blisters showed up today. We've just moved to a new house, so I'm not sure if there is something in the garden causing this. Nothing stood out to me, except I know there's cane toads here. She hasn't been sick and seems to be breathing normally. The blisters don't seem to be causing her pain.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on the picture, I would suspect something infectious such as a virus or bacterial infection. It could be a severe case of acne but it is a different presentation than I've seen before. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may need to be on an oral antibiotic and topical ointment to treat this. I hope this helps!
