Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | spayed | 9 months and 2 days old
My dog is making a honking gagging noise like she's choking or somethings stuck in her thoat. Sometimes she brings up clear mucus. Last night she also had a fever. This has been going on for about 3 months off and on. It started after her desexing op, I took her in the day after and was told it was just irritation from the tube that was in her throat. Could some damage have been done?

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a tracheitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). The tube could be related to acute signs after the surgery but they usually resolve in maximum a week. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
