My senior dog has noisy breathing, congestion, and gooey eyes. Allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 14 years and 7 months old | 59.5 lbs

My 14ur old dog sounds like he can’t breathe very noisy breathing, he sounds congested but only has mucus when he sneezes and it’s like a jelly n seems sticky, his eyes run and are sometimes gooey, n his nose runs when outside and make him sneeze but clears him abit, he reverse sneezes, I’m not sure if he has allergy’s, dust mites or shinitis, I’m not sure weather to give him antihistamines? If so what ones at what dosage? Thank you

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
