How much salmon oil for my adult dog? How long should I give it?

How much quantity of Salmon Oil would be the best for an adult Dog? Is this alright, if Salmon Oil is given only for one month in winters?

Hi there! Yes, it's find to give a daily supplement of salmon oil to Joey if you wish - this can help to promote healthy skin and joints, and most dogs also enjoy the taste :) Once daily on his food is fine. Different brands of salmon oil have different concentrations, so I can't say how much you should give without being able to see the label of the product you have. If it's a veterinary products, there should be instructions on the label for how much to give each day, depending on Joey's weight.

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Good to see you posted this question because I thought of that after answering your first question. Yes salmon oil is great from wild caught salmon. Farmed salmon do not have the same levels of the omega 3 fatty acids found in wild caught salmon. The best is to buy an oil for dogs. It lists how much to give based on weight. Here is the current recommendation for healthy dogs and puppies- The current safe range is about 180 mg of EPA source/10# body weight. EPA is eicosapentaenoic acid which is one of the fatty acids in salmon oil. Great question and great idea. Omega 3 fatty acid supplementation is great because the oils are of course essential for normal cell function and they are anti inflammatory in nature.

Hello, that you for using Boop by Petco. Yes, salmon oil is an excellent choice. The minimum dose of EPA should be 20 mg/ pound/ day. So you would give a 50 pound dog 1 capsule a day. Mary can have the one capsule daily with no worries. Take care.

I have fish oild 1200 mg but has 360mg of omega 3 can i still give one capsule to my fog
Since this is considered "off label use", as this is not a product designed specifically for dogs, your veterinarian would be the one to direct your specific dog in terms of using this product since its "off-label." To adhere to my veterinary license, I cannot advise off-label doses for a patient I have not examined and a client that I have not met. However, I will tell you that I would tell my clients that this is generally a safe product to give a 50 pound lab once a day. You may notice some increased gas/flatulence, and a "fishy" odor to his breath. If you notice any vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite, get him in to see your vet and discontinue use.

Happy Thanksgiving! You give give him fish oil tablets which will be a great source of omega-3 for him. For every 30 pounds of body weight, give him 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined. I hope this helps!

Is Beaphar Salmon Oil health/good for dogs, if not then what would be the best brand of salmon oil for my German Shepherd?
All the brands should contain the same single ingredient: salmon oil. I would recommend getting one, using it for 6 weeks, and then re-evaluate if it is having the change you are wanting to see. A side effect of salmon oil is loose or greasy stools, which can be limited by using less salmon oil.

Is 1,000 mg. Of fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA and DHA from a Kirkland brand fish oil ok for an 18 pound dog? please explain.
Yes, that is fine to give once a day. I recommend a maximum of 750 mg of fish oil per 10 lbs of body weight in a dog. That brand if fine to give. Human fish oil products are safe for dogs. They are a good source of omega 3 which I use to reduce joint inflammation from arthritis. As Chacha is so small the maximum dose for her is 500 mg Fish oil daily. I usually start with a lower dose to make sure she doesn't get diarrhea and then I gradually increase it. You can split the dose also if you feed twice daily. Some people use liquid, others cut open the capsules and put the oil directly on the food. For EPA aim for 120 mg daily and DHA around 80 mg daily. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Chacha.

I forgot to mention I compared the values of each fish oil and both were very similar per 1/4 tsp. so why would RX recommend double? RX vitamins had 750 mg of fish oil, 135 mg of EPA and 90 mg of DHA. Nordic naturals had 1,000 mg of fish oil, 150 mg
To be honest, I'm not sure why Rx recommend double if the values are very similar. It could be that they are suggesting a higher daily amount for your dog than Nordic naturals. There is a dosage range, which can go from 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined for 30 pounds of body weight to a dose maximum of 1,000 mg fish oil per 10 pounds of body weight.
