My dog only got one puppy shot. Is she covered or does she need more?

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | 11 months and 9 days old | 45 lbs

Nora was immunized at 16 weeks with the 5and1 shot and rabies two weeks later. Previously, I had been told that Nora was fine and was planning to immunize her again at the one year booster. Now the vet is acting strange about her records and I am wondering if she will have to be vaccinated again. I don’t want to give her more shots if she doesn’t need them.

If Nora only got one vaccine of 5 and 1 and one rabies vaccine, she is not covered at all. If she started her vaccine course at 16 weeks, she needed a booster of shot of each vaccine both given four weeks after the first to be fully protected. If this did not happen, she is vulnerable to serious diseases. You need to take her into a vet this weekend to start her vaccine course again.

You should book a vet appointment as soon as you can for a routine check up and vaccinations and de worming. Your vet can help you with any vaccines you need for your area but typically the first/ basic vaccine is a combined coverage for 4-5 typical and common diseases and is pretty standard. Rabies is usually recommended and given as a separate injection (during the same appointment). You will need to take your dog for a second appointment for some follow up boosters (you vet will tell you when, usually a couple weeks to a month later). Until these vaccines have been administered and a couple weeks have passed before your dog is provided with full immunity, it is best to avoid public places where other dogs frequent or contact with other dogs to prevent infection of illness.

My puppy is going to be seven months soon and she still hasn't gotten all of her shots. She has only gotten one when she was about three to four months but I don't have the paper to see what shot she was given, is it possible to just get all her shot
Likely Nala got a combination vaccine for distemper, parvovirus, canine hepatitis, and parainfluenza. If she only got one shot, then she likely didn't have rabies, as that's a separate vaccine. A lot of states in the US require dogs to be vaccinated for rabies by law, so she will need that done. She will also need a booster shot for DHPPi (the diseases I mentioned above). I would not take Nala to places where dogs frequent, such as dog parks or parks in general, until she is fully vaccinated to prevent her from getting infected with a serious disease. I would have Nala vaccinated as soon as possible.

My puppy only had his first set of shots and after that hasn’t gotten anymore. It’s been four months, is that bad?
Yes, this isn't good because Kupa isn't protected against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. Plus, by law, he should be rabies vaccinated by now, and since he's not, that's breaking the law. You need to get him into a vet asap to start his vaccine schedule over again, and start his rabies vaccine series.

How many sets of shots does my puppy need? She had them at 8 weeks, 11 weeks & 15 weeks with the rabies at the visit also?
She should be good for a year. Ask your veterinarian to be sure, some areas allow the use of multiple year vaccinations, meaning once they reach adulthood and receive the vaccination, your pet can go for two or even three years before needing a booster. It depends on the frequency of certain disease in your area and what the local law is.

I will be adopting a dog from a friend who's unable to take care of him but the only shots he's had are rabies and he's 19 weeks old so will he need 1 shot of the combo or 3 shots every 4 weeks
Since the puppy is getting a late start on the other vaccines, you will not need to do as many. The series of 4 is usually when the vaccines are started at 6-8 weeks and the immune system is just developing . I would recommend a series of 2 DHLPP vaccines with the injections being done 3 weeks apart. Your pup may also benefit from a kennel cough vaccine which can be done with the same schedule. Your puppy should also have been dewormed and it is time to start heartworm prevention, so getting him an appointment with your vet can get you started on all of these things he needs.

My lha-pom(mix) has received only vaccination of first month and then a rabies dose at 6 months.....i havent taken her for any other vaccinations lately.....i want her to get vaccinated....what vaccines can be given at this stage??? She is 1 yr old
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Snoppy is adorable! She should have her DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo and Parainfluenza) vaccine. In the US, puppies get them every 3-4 weeks until they have 2 past 12 weeks of age. The final DHPP is good for one year. When they come back again a year later it is good for 3 years. The first Rabies vaccine in puppies is good for 1 year then it is boosted the following year and is good for 3 years (if it is labeled as a 3 year vaccine). Ideally if she only received ONE DHPP as a puppy, I would give her TWO 3-4 weeks apart and booster it again next year. You will need to contact your local Vet in India to follow the Rabies guidelines for your country. I got my dog about a week ago at a park and she’s about 6-7 weeks old and they said she got her vaccinations already but they didn’t give me any paperwork, so what do I do? Get her re-vaccinated? Or?
At that age your puppy would have had only one course of vaccinations. As they did not give you paper work I would assume that your puppy was not vaccinated and start with the first course again. You should take Koko to your vet for a wellness exam, worming and vaccinations. She will need three courses of vaccinations to be protected.

Have a German Shepard around 6 months old. Family we got her from said shots were good except rabies but hey have no documents to show this. Should we get her vaccinated again?
If you don't have proof of vaccination, then I would just assume that Ruby is not vaccinated, and get her started right away. Since she is already 5 months old, she will likely only need 2 distemper/parvo vaccinations in addition to rabies to get her up date. A vet will be able to discuss other recommended vaccinations based on your lifestyle and location.

You should start as if she was a puppy, she will need a full vaccination course (2-3 vaccinations 4 weeks apart). you should also get her dewormed and treated for fleas. make an apointment with your local vet in order to start the process ASAP.

The first vaccination by now will have lost all effectivity. So you are starting basically from the beginning. Your puppy will need three courses of DHPP as a basic core course of vaccinations. It will also need a rabies shot. These will need a booster after one year and then he will only need vaccinations every three years. If you only vaccinate once, the body will not make the specific antibodies necessary for the viral diseases covered, but will only initiate a general immune response. Only the second and third course will then entice the body's immune system to make specific antibodies. Vaccines are given in 2-3 week intervals.
