My kitten is dehydrated and vomiting Pedialyte. What's the next step?

My 5 month kitten is severely dehydrated i'm giving him pedialyte but he drinks some with syringe and then vomits some of it .what should be the dosage please tell me and my vet said that he would not give him intravenous fluid because it is not suitable please tell me what to de now i'm very very worried how to feed him pedialyte and how to make him not vomit somw of it he is severely dehydrated

Jack should have IV fluids if he's severely dehydrated and can't keep down the pedialyte. You need to take him back into another vet now. He needs IV fluids because he cannot keep anything down, as well as anti-nausea medication.

Poor little one, I would recommend that he has fluids intravenously and medications through the drip until he starts to eat.. then you can start oral medications. If he is dehydrated already, as time goes by without eating, he will be getting worse. Hope you can have him rechecked and that something a little more intensive can be done for him. Yes, pedialyte is safe to give to kittens. You can offer this 3-4 times a day. Let her drink as much as she wants and then offer her plenty of fresh clean water. Alternatively, you can mix oral rehydration salts in water as directed by the manufacturer and give this free-choice along with fresh water. Ideally, you should consult your vet if she is having problems. Doxycycline can cause damage to the esophagus and stomach, which will decrease her appetite. In these cases we usually advise to stop the doxycycline and switch the antibiotic. You can help the congestion by giving him a steam bath. I'm sorry to hear that Lil One is vomiting so frequently. This is a serious problem as he will become dehydrated like you mentioned. He needs to see his veterinarian. He could have eaten a foreign object such as a piece of string or toy that is now blocking his intestines. If that is not the case, he could have an internal problem such as kidney or thyroid disease. He will likely need bloodwork, a urinalysis and possibly x-rays. Continue to offer him small amounts of water frequently to help keep him hydrated. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I found a stray cat yesterday that is severely dehydrated. She ate and drank some water but threw it all up. Now it wouldn't eat on its own and I'm force feeding it through a syring. It seemed to be working today until I made the mistake of over feed
I think the cat is sick to be causing the dehydration, so I don't think simply rehydrating it will be the answer. It could have a bacterial or viral infection, kidney failure, etc. I would recommend having the cat examined by a vet to determine what is going on to be causing the intense nausea.

I am also afraid Sprinkles may not make it until Monday as she sounds extremely sick. You cannot force her to eat or drink, she needs IV fluids and other supportive care that only a vet can provide. She has to see a vet immediately. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

I would highly recommend bringing her back to a vet. She most likely needs some fluid and nutritional support. This can be a virus that she is fighting off but to fight it off properly she needs nutrition. Her glucose can drop very low if she does not eat and cause seizures and even death. Destiny may be dehydrated from the vomiting. If the veterinarian did not administer fluids under the skin already, I would recommend calling the vet back and seeing if this is something that can be done or if it is something that needs to be done. I would also consider an anti-nausea injection. I hope this helps and hope she gets better soon!

IV fluids would be better for this situation, as they are absorbed quicker to help her dehydration. I'd take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

I would recommend that you take Arfa to your vet for a physical examination and possibly diagnostic testing, such as bloodwork, parvo testing, or x-rays. The symptoms you describe are a little vague, but could be caused by bacterial infection, viral infection (such as panleukopenia virus), intestinal parasites, intestinal obstruction, among many others. At this point, offer Arfa many different types of dry and wet cat food and even kitten milk replacer to see if you can entice her to eat. You can also syringe her water or pedialyte to try to maintain hydration, however this can worsen nausea. Many times kittens that aren't interested in eating need IV fluids to stay hydrated. Periset is an anti-nausea medication. Mega CV is an antibiotic. Polybion is a vitamin supplement.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. A kitten this young & dehydrated needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. She may need supplemental fluids, either give intravenously or under the skin. Then, we need to know why Acil has become dehydrated. Is she sick with an infection, was there any trauma, or does she have a large intestinal parasite burden? If she is eating, you can give her any food that has a high moisture content ( ie canned ), but if she is already dehydrated, it is difficult to remedy this just depending on what she eats on her own.
