Kitten lethargic, meowing, bleeding after rabies vaccine. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 4 month old kitten got her second dose of rabies vaccine today, the first one was a month ago as prescribed by the vet. Today, after the vaccination she appears to be lethargic and meows when i m not near her. She had bled 4-5 drops when the vet removed the syringe, the vet explained that it was because she had to use a bigger needle as a small one wasn't available at the time. So should I be worried?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kitten. Lethargy is common after a vaccine. If she vomits, develops facial swelling or has difficulty breathing, this is a sign of vaccine reaction. This needs immediate veterinary care. A small amount of bleeding can occur on the skin from the injection. I hope this information helps!
