Sick nursing cat won't eat. Can I give her kitten milk replacer?

My cat got a fever today and she doesnt eat anything for the whole day.I only tried feeding her water and she refused to eat any type of food.Im unable to go to the vet because of the price.But I have this specific milk replacement for cats that I bought from pet shop frw months ago.Some vet said that u cant give cat milk but the milk that I bought said that it is only used for kittens, pregnant/lactating cats and also sick cats.So should I actually give my cat milk? Sheis also nursing kittens

Milk replacement for cats is fine to give her, but please know it's very serious when a cat won't eat. If they go long enough without eating (about 72 hours), they will develop a fatty liver. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment. You need to take her into a vet now, especially since she is nursing kittens. She may have a severe post-partum illness. Take her kittens with you to the vet.

No, giving Muffin milk replacement will not turn that milk into her milk. It's concerning she is very skinny, and she needs a kitten formulated dry food to eat while nursing. The kitten food will give her added calories, protein, and calcium to support nursing her kittens, and I would run out to get that food now. Leave a bowl out of that for her to eat as needed. It's very important she is healthy to support nursing her kittens, so I would also recommend a visit with the vet in the next day or two for a health check. Be sure to bring her kittens with her. I'm concerned that our cat just had kittens 3 days not a first timer thats what they told my son when he took her in, but she looks so stressed out and wont eat or drink water. We went out to buy her new bowls and food but yet she wont eat and kitten
She could still have some kittens inside her causing her to be sick. There are also other reason like electrolyte imbalances or a retained placenta that could also cause her to not want to eat or nurse her young. If she is a first time mother, this could also be the cause. I would strongly recommend to have her seen by your vet to ensure she is healthy otherwise. They will be able to do blood work and also x-rays to ensure there aren't any additional kittens left inside. They will also be able to give her an appetite stimulate and other meds if needed. In the meantime, I would buy kitten formula and bottle feed all the kittens every 2-3 hours even overnight until you are able to get the mother to nurse them. You will also need to use a warm damp rag and gently rub all of the kittens bums to help them urinate and defecate after every feeding. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better and begins to nurse her kittens really soon.

Lol, purrfect, I love it! But I'm sorry that Mommy isn't eating and had diarrhea. It's is very serious when a nursing mother isn't eating and having diarrhea because it's extremely important that she has enough energy and is hydrated in order to make enough milk to feed her kittens. I would take her into the vet immediately with her kittens. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian today. She will need a large amount of calories to produce enough milk for the kittens. Feeding her kitten food will help. It is palatable and contains higher fat, protein and calories. The veterinarian will examine her. Sometimes x-rays are taken to ensure that she delivered all the kittens. She will be checked for an infection such as mastitis as well. I hope this information helps!

The kittens' nutritional needs are not likely to be compromised since Coby did not eat or drink much today. However, I would become concerned if this situation continues. Offer Coby kitten foods - canned or dry foods, but try not to offer more than 2 options at a time, as this can be overwhelming. With some of the canned foods, try to warm them up in the microwave for a few seconds to tempt her to eat. Some cats are social eaters and like being pet and kept company while eating. Others are very independent and prefer to be completely alone while eating. Try to determine which Coby prefers. If she is still completely unwilling to eat by tomorrow, she should be evaluated by her vet. Should you need to take her to the vet, be sure to take her kittens too.

Your kitten may be sick if she is refusing to nurse. You will need to supplement her feeding with kitten milk replacer which you can purchase at your local pet store. Make sure the kittens stay warm. If they are not nursing well or she is not producing milk then you can bottle feed them to help. She should be fed kitten food as it has more calories and nutrients to help her keep her weight up and produce enough milk

The best way to fatten up a cat that is recovering from an illness is to feed her kitten food. Don't over feed her as you don't want her to gain weight too fast - that can be too hard on her system. Kitten food is high in calories that is why it is good. Canned or dry food is fine, whatever she likes. At one month old kittens will often start eating canned food if you offer it to them. This poor little kitten! You can try getting him some kitten formula from the grocery store (I recommend KMR) and a bottle so you can try to bottle feed him. Unfortunately some newborn kittens are extremely fragile, and they cannot survive long without feeding. If he won't take the bottle, I wouldn't wait until the morning to see a vet, as he may not survive the night. In this case, please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Good luck!
