My cat has a leg cut with hair loss, but no pain. How to treat it?

Female cat has a cut on her leg with localised hair loss,. Unsure how she has done this. She doesn't seem to he in any pain with it.

Poor kitty! I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

Ouch, poor Pritzy! Thank you for providing pictures of this wound, as it helps with my answer to you. I don't see any pus, and it doesn't look particularly red, swollen, or deep. Based on that, this is something you can try to treat at home. I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. Hi. We suspect our cat might have a torn tendon on the inner part of his right back leg. This might have happened 2 days ago. Photos attached. He appeared in pain yesterday but not today. He even jumps and walks normally. He doesn't seem to struggl
Please keep this area clean so the skin will heal. I use hydrogen peroxide as it doesn't sting. You can then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. Luckily cats heal very well so as long as he is moving normally, is not in pain and the area doesn't get infected you do not need to him take him in. Cat has cut on it's back, no bleeding, looks to be minor, how can I treat this?

My kitten (who is 4 or 5 months old) has this wound on her front paw. We noticed it last night and cleaned out antiseptic on it. It doesn’t appear to be bothering her and we don’t know how long it has been there. Any idea what could have caused this?

My cat gio has an open wound on his back left leg. It's decently deep, I don't have the money to take him to a vet an give him stitches what can I do
The first step in wound treatment is to get the hair out of the way. You will need to use clippers to clip a wide area around the wound - you can't use scissors or a razor, you have to use the buzzing type of clippers. The next step is disinfection. I recommend using a first aid chlorhexidine scrub to gently rub into the wound, and wash copiously with clean water. You only need to do this once. The third step is to prevent Gio from licking the wound. Licking spreads bacteria and decreases the rate of healing. You will have to buy an e-collar or cone for her to wear since cats are very flexible and a bandage will not be able to stay in place on this area of her body. You can apply Neosporin ointment twice a day, making sure she doesn't lick it off. If you follow these steps, small wounds will often heal on their own. If the wound has already been infected, or continues to swell, oozes a creamy discharge, or he has a rectal temperature above 103 (normal is 100-102.5), Gio will need pre

I posted a question yesterday about KitKats scratches. The vet said they look infected because it was wet around it. When actually I put water on her fur so it would lay down and be out of the way, so I could get a good view of the scratches to take

My cat has a bare patch the size of a £2 coin on the back of his leg. It doesn't look sore and he isn't over-washing it - do I need to do anything about it, or is it best left alone?
Although a pciture of it could help to determine the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. If she has no fever, pain or lameness I would continue to keep the area clean using saline or dilute chlorhexidine or iodine based disinfectant and monitor for any additional marks which may indicate an infectious cause. Handle with care and wash hands thoroughly as ringworm can appear similar to this in some cats and can be contagious to people

Our friend’s cat whom we are catsitting has an abraded hind paw. He doesn’t seem to be in pain or walking funny. Would it be possible for us to treat this ourselves? It s difficult and expensive to get him to a vet.
You can certainly clean this by taking some gauze that has mild soap and warm water in it a scrub it, not too vigorously but enough to get it clean. This should help, and then placing an e-collar will also keep him from licking it, which will cause infection. However, before you consider this course of action I would strongly recommend that you contact his owners to make sure that they are ok with you choosing to treat this at home. He is their cat, and they may wish to have him seen. Also be aware that this may be painful and you may have difficultly getting him to submit to your treatments. Finally, if he is having other systemic signs of illness, such as lethargy or decreased appetite, you’ll need to go ahead and take him in.

Hi there, My cat has a cut/scrape on her inner leg. I noticed it 2 months ago but it was very small. Now it seems a lot bigger and more red with lots more hair loss around the cut. I see her constantly licking it. Maybe this is why it's not healing?
Hello. I would not try to dress the wound yourself. Some products can be very dangerous to cats, and due to excessive grooming they often eat products. I would recommend firstly to get an e-collar to prevent her from licking. Cats licking at a wound would prevent and delay healing. Also, if it has been 2 months and not healing, then I would be worried about infection, especially if she has been licking as cat's mouths contain very nasty bacteria. I would suggest having it seen by a vet. You can try the e-collar first for a couple days if Luda isn't bothered by the wound, and if it is healing you can leave the e-collar on for 10 days to allow it to heal completely. If it isn't healing then have it seen by a vet. Don't apply any bandages or products to it, you are risking causing much more harm, and not helping at all.
