Why are both my cats sick with mouth pain and scratching for weeks?

Both of my cats are sick. I thought they got into something but it has been about 3 weeks with the same symptoms. Both are salivating more than normal and are opening and closing their mouths quite often. Almost like a sore throat or mouth. Now have sores on their backs from scratching and over grooming. I checked for fleas and dont see any. I'm at a loss and cant find any answers. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 9 lbs

Without seeing them in person, unfortunately I cannot diagnose what is going on with them either. I can say that three weeks is a long time to have concerning symptoms, so you need to have them seen by a vet in the morning. The vet can diagnose and treat this.
