What vet tests for a German Shepherd's red, swollen nose and lips?

What kind of test wouldd my primary vet perform to perform diagnoses on why my German shepherd has red, swollen jewels, nose, and lips?

Likely the vet would start off with a physical exam, checking all of Kona out, but focusing on her face. Depending on what the vet sees, additional tests may be done like a skin scraping or skin biopsy.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Nova. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Has she been digging or rubbing her nose on anything to cause scrapes? That is a possibility a young dog. If this is not the cause, there are autoimmune conditions that cause loss of pigment to the nose. Discoid lupus is an example. Finally, a skin infection is also possible. The veterinarian will examine her and decide how best to test or treat her. I hope this information helps!

It could be an infection or possibly an auto-immune disease. Have your vet take a look at the lesions to determine the exact cause. Your vet can do a biopsy, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. He may need an antibiotic and/or an anti-inflammatory.

My 7 year old German Shepherd has a sore nose like it's peeling
Hello. A sore and peeling nose can be caused by a trauma, sun burn (unlikely if you are in the UK), auto-immune diseases of the nose where the body attacks those cells, or infection. I would recommend having Khan seen by a vet to check for these things, and see if you need medications. Good luck with Khan.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. We just saw this today on our Female German Shepard’s snout. It is only on her right side. We are sad and concerned.
Cahnges to the skin on the nose of a German Shepherd may be a sign of cutaneous Lupus or another skin disease. I would high recommend a veterinary appointment for assessment of the skin as it looks unhealthy and could progress without treatment.

Hello. It looks like Reina may have Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE). It is common in her breed. It is an autoimmune disease of the skin that causes loss of pigment and scaling (usually around the nose first) and worsens with exposure to UV sunlight. A biopsy is needed to make a definitive diagnosis. I would suggest you take her to your vet for an exam and to talk about the biopsy so you can get a diagnosis and to talk about treatment options. That is a really large swelling so he should be examined and treated by a vet. Your vet can do some testing to figure out the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications. Please call your vet and have him examined.

Yikes, that lip is really swollen! With swelling in one particular spot (rather than the whole face), an allergic reaction is unlikely. I’d be much more concerned about a possible infection or penetrating wound on the inside of the lip. I recommend having Kaiser seen by the vet, as he may need a course of antibiotics. Hello. This could be as simple as a small wound that scarred over. It could also be a little patch of infection or something more serious. I would monitor it for now. If she is scratching at it, or if it is growing or has any discharge then have her into the vet. Otherwise monitor and it should heal up in about 5 days. Good luck with her!
