Are Digyton and Digyton Plus both different? If Digyton Plus is for adult Dogs,then for what age group it is suitable to feed?

Digyton is a herbomineral formulation that works to stimulate the appetite and reduce attacks of common gastrointestinal complaints. Digyton PLUS stimulates the secretion of enzymes in the stomach, which aids the digestion of food. It also possesses antibacterial, anti-spasmodic and bowel regulating properties that help in controlling gastric infections associated with stomach disorders in adult dogs. An adult dog is a dog who is at least 12 months of age.

This answer partially depends on what the problem is. However, the most common thing we will recommend for GI health is probiotics (often in conjunction with pre-biotics). Probiotics are the good bacteria in the GI tract that help it stay healthy. There are a number of products on the market. Some are more complete than others. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Just like you pointed out, there are many different diets in the market to the point that it is hard to decide which one is best for patients. For any concerns on digestion, I prefer a veterinary prescription diet called Purina EN which is easily digestible and at the same time very good in terms of nutrition. It is also palatable and most dogs seem to like it. Alternatively, you could consider another diet which is the Hill's id which is similar to the Purina EN though in my experience it is not as palatable and some dogs will not eat it. Your veterinarian would have to write up a prescription for this diet. Good luck and have a good night!

Man, that's a loaded question! In general, choose a good-quality commercial dog food, which will provide all necessary protein, fiber, minerals, and nutrients that a dog needs. There are different formulations that are appropriate for dogs with specific issues, but at 4 months of age, I would not expect Mia to have a sensitive stomach or food allergies - discuss this with your vet, though. Adding in a pet probiotic & prebiotic is an excellent idea for intestinal health in all dogs (just like in all humans!) but it has to be given every day to have any positive effect. Probiotics designed for dogs tend to work better than human probiotics. Keeping Mia on good food and flea and tick and heartworm preventatives and vaccinating her according to your vet's recommendation is the best way to keep her immune system at its peak performance.

Yes, you can give dogs too many supplements. It is quite possible to overdose a variety of vitamins and minerals. Dogs do not typically need any aids for their digestion. Dogs eating a commercial dog food rarely require any supplements, as these diets are properly balanced with the correct quantities of vitamins and minerals. If Baby Girl is eating a home-cooked diet, I recommend reviewing her current diet with a veterinary nutritionist or following a recipe from www.balanceit.com, which will be able to guide you as to the necessary supplementation. I'm confused as to how Baby Girl and your other dog have been diagnosed with pancreatitis or gastrointestinal issues in the absence of gastrointestinal signs. I would need further information regarding their physical exams, lab tests, and imaging in order to provide an opinion on the situation. Probiotics are not likely necessary in the absence of gastrointestinal signs or antibiotic treatment.

Inappetence can be a sign of something quite serious especially if it is accompanied by lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea. If it has been more than 48 hours since Digby ate, a trip to the veterinarian tomorrow morning is warranted. Good luck! I hope Digby is feeling better soon.

I have a 1 and 1/2 yr old bernese mountain dog and a 8 week old German Shepherd pup. Would it be ok to start both on a g.i. Balance supplement and a joint health supplement?
It's fine to start your 1.5 year old dog on the joint supplement, but it's not recommended to start puppies on joint supplements until he is at least a year old. That's because a puppy will be producing it's own glucosamine for his joints, and will not needed the added support. I would speak to your vet about giving your older dog the GI balance supplement to see if he needs it, but again I would not give it to the puppy until he is at least a year old. He doesn't need any additional supplemental while he's growing, as too much can be detrimental to his growth and health. The reason why I suggest speaking to your vet about giving it to your older dog is because, again, too many vitamins and minerals can be detrimental to your dog, and it may not be healthy to give to him.

How can I prevent digestive problems in dogs?
In order to minimize the chance of developing digestive problems, dogs should be fed a consistent high quality, complete and balanced diet. This includes feeding the same diet from day to day. If a change in diet is needed, it should be made gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. Feed 75% of the old food with 25% of the new food for a day or two, then 50% of each for another few days, and then 25% of the old food with 75% of the new food for another day or two before exclusively feeding the new diet. Never feed table scraps. Sudden diet changes or new foods can commonly result in an upset stomach with vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Coco. I would consider a prescription low fat diet such as Purina EN canned food. It is highly digestible palatable diet that easy on the gastrointestinal tract. You can also add Fortiflora as a probiotic. Most dogs like the taste and it can help repopulate her gut with good bacteria after the antibiotics. I hope this information helps!

Sometimes Drontal plus can cause emesis (throwing up). But it is also possible that she has a tummy issue. Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Pepper for 12 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if she gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
