My dog is spotting after puppies. Is it heat? Can she be spayed?

Our Boerboel had puppies 10 weeks ago. She totally weaned them 5 weeks ago. She was spotting 4 days ago, a small amount, and it only lasted for 2 days. I have her scheduled for spaying next week. Can her cycle hesitate and stop, then start up again before her spaying? She is well fed and gets plenty of exercise.

It could be her heat starting up again, but if she is showing no other signs of heat (enlarged vulva, enlarged nipples), the blood could be from something else like a UTI. Let the vet know, but even if she is in heat, the vet can spay her.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. If there are no other signs of heat (swollen vulva, swollen teats), then I am concerned for a urinary tract infection. Take Molly and a sample of her urine in to the vet. If there ARE signs that she is in heat, talk to your vet about testing for an ovarian remnant (a few ovary cells left in the body can be enough to trigger a heat sometimes). My 11 year old fixed female yorkie is bleeding either from her vulva or her kidneys. Do fixed dogs have heats?
If a dog is spayed correctly they not long have heat cycles and should not be spotting or bleeding. If there is a discharge noted, it is best to start with a urine sample and an ultrasound to look at the bladder and kidneys and look at the cervix to see if there is an infection or a growth.

My chi/ jack Russell / min pin mix gave birth on December 17th 4 days after arriving in our home as a rescue. 3 days later her single puppy was killed by another dog visiting our home...since then Casy has continued spotting. She has visited the vet
She should not be back in heat this quickly. Did the vet run a urine test to check for a UTI? Have they prescribed any medications? That is where I would start. I suspect it is normal post-partum discharge she is having but it is best to have her checked out. I strongly recommend having her spayed as soon as possible.

I have a femalelab of one n a half year old..I got her spayed in Jan 2017 but after two months she had vaginal bleeding n swollen vulva and make dog attraction..this lasted for 20 days....again she showed similar symptoms two days back..my vet is not
It sounds like she is showing signs of being in heat. Sometimes when dogs are spayed there is a chance of leaving behind a bit of ovary which can still produce hormones. There is a blood test that can check for an ovarian remnant, I would ask your vet to run this.

My 5 year old pitbull is "spotting" 2 months after her heat cycle. It has been once a week ish that just a tiny bit of awful smelling blood comes out. What should I do?
I'd have Iszadora seen by a vet immediately. This "spotting" could be due to a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Please take her into a vet now. If she does have a pyometra, she will need to be spayed. Best of luck.

I have a 1-year-old German Shepard that was spayed on February 18th. On February 27th we noticed that there was some spotting like she had started her cycle. Is this normal?
Hello. This is possible if Gypsy had been in the very early stages of her heat cycle when she was spayed. Depending on the procedure your veterinarian did( complete removal of the ovaries & uterus, or the now more common procedure of only removing the ovaries ), she could have still had some hormonal influence on these tissues. So essentially, she is in the next stage of her cycle. If this is the case, then the spotting should diminish over the next few days. If the spotting is still present after a week, or the spotting is becoming more frequent or heavier, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

is it normal for a female dog to spot a month before her heat cycle begins
No, this isn't normal to spot before going into heat. Dogs typically go into heat every six months, but they can go into heat sooner than that. It could be that Jada is going into heat now, or she could have something more wrong with her such as vaginitis or a pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus). Because I can't see her in person to say what is going on, I do think a visit with the vet on Monday is best to make sure everything is ok. If you see other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, thick discharge from the vaginal area, a swollen abdomen, increased thirst, and/or lethargy (all signs of a pyometra), take her into vet immediately. My dog Izzy had went into Heat end of October and me and my family just noticed as of yesterday she's starting to bleed is she miscarrying and what should I do?
I would have your vet take a look at her to see where the blood is coming from. The urethra is also very closely associated with the vagina so she could be leaking blood from her bladder. She could also be suffering from a serious infection called a pyometra which needs to be addressed ASAP. Your vet will also be able to tell if she is/was pregnant. There isn’t much you can do at home. If she is bleeding, further diagnostics need to be done. She likely needs some meds and additional treatment. I hope this helps.

My dogs just gave birth two months ago and her vagina is already swollen again but no blood discharge. She she in heat already? Is that normal? Should I be worried? Advice please
This is definitely possible that she is already back in heat. She could also have an infection so be sure to keep an eye out for any abnormal behavior like not eating, lethargy, or vomiting. If you see any abnormal behavior or just want to be sure, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she is healthy. I would not breed her during this heat cycle since she just had a litter. I have an older dog she's a rescue not sure exact age or breed guessing 12yrs. She's spotting blood all over house. I was told she is fixed. Not sure what's going on. Still eating and drinking. Any advice would be great. Funds are very limited rig
If you have had her for a long time and she has never had this issue then she probably is spayed and the problem is caused by something else. Lulu could have a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a tumor causing her to spot blood. The only way to know would be to have her examined by a vet. A vet can run a urinalysis to look for an infection and take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. You could try to find a low cost clinic in your area and see if they could help. She may just need an oral antibiotic to treat an infection so it might not be too costly. Hope she gets better soon!
