Dog has dark skin spot, vet says allergies but no itch. Is it yeast?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 55 lbs

My dog has this spot on her skin that will not go away. The vet thinks it allergies but she doesn’t lick it or chew at it EVER. We have tried apparel, antibiotics, creams and I even put neosporin on it. I’ve scrubbed it in the tub but nothing makes it go away. It’s now starting to show up on the other side of her belly. What is it?

This is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The skin pigment goes from pink to black due to chronic inflammation. Most of the time this is due to yeast on the skin. I suggest you use this medicated spray once a day on the affected areas and see if that helps. The contact time is important so be sure to leave it on. ( https://www.allivet.com/p-6692-douxo-chlorhexidine-shampoo-for-dogs-and-cats.aspx?SearchTerm=chlorhex+Auto ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
