My rabbit has weird face marks and is slow. Is it a fight or illness?

Hi my rabbit has weird markings on nose/face. We have no idea what happened and we’re just concerned because he’s not acting like his normal self ? Not sure if him and the other rabbit got into a fight or if it’s a actual medical concern.

This looks like it could be from a fight. If Jack is acting super slow, that tells me he is in pain. He should see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

You need to take Nibbles into a vet immediately. He could have suffering internal injuries from this attack, and cat bites frequently become infected. Bunnies are very stoic and will hide their pain very well because they are prey animals. Even though he's acting normally, he likely will be hurting from this attack and he needs veterinary attention now. Do not put any more hydrogen peroxide on his wounds as it actually damages the tissues and interferes with wound healing. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Smokey. I am very concerned for him - rabbits rarely show signs of illness until their disease is very progressed as they are prey animals, so they can hide their symptoms. A few possibilities for his symptoms may be myxomatosis - a viral infection which is highly contagious and causes pus to form in the eyes, nose and genital area. Another illness is E.cuniculi - this is a parasite that can affect balance and can make it hard for your bunny to stand or move. This carries a more favorable outcome with treatment - but it relies on his body responding to the treatment and very careful nursing of him to ensure he is eating / drinking and passing pellets. If you can take him tonight, I would recommend to do so. It is possible that he may pass naturally. I'm sorry, I hope Smokey makes it.

I found a rabbit. Male unnuetered. Gash like sore on side. No bleeding just pink skin. Also brownish pee. Red eyes. No other visible injuries. Lets me handle him. How can I help him?
What a cute bunny! From the photo the area on the skin looks as though it has healed- if there is a defect in the skin itself then an exam by the vet is recommended as he may need antibiotics. I cannot see any redness to his eyes in this photo, so I am not sure if you mean that his eye color is red or if he has red eye lids or the white of his eyes look red. If he is rubbing at his eyes/blinking alot, has excess tears or a green or yellow discharge from the eyes these would be cause for a vet exam as well. The red color to the urine can sometimes be a result of diet http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=18+1803&aid=2839. If he is not acting lethargic and is eating/drinking I would monitor the urine for a few days- if he becomes lethargic/is straining to pee/stops eating or drinking or the urine continues to look red then an exam is recommended.

Check his teeth if he will allow. Make sure they aren't overgrown or misaligned. This could affect his appetite. If he stops eating, he is at risk of developing gut stasis which can be life threatening. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits. It should be done today/tonight, if possible, since a rabbit that is lethargic or not eating should be considered a veterinary emergency.

Hello! I'm sorry your bun has a nose problem! If it doesn't go away on its own within a few days, or if it starts to spread, I would take your bun in to your veterinarian who may want to do a skin scraping or collect hairs from the area to make sure your bun doesn't have a mite or fungal infection. Some kinds of infections can be spread to people too, so especially if it is getting worse I would make sure to get a diagnosis so you can start treatment.

There is definitely something wrong with him, in most cases when a rabbit shows such symptoms quite suddenly it is because of gut stasis, but it could also be other things. you must take him to the vet ASAP, he will need a checkup and a simple blood test to check for stasis/blockage then he can get the proper treatment.

Hello, and thanks for your question. Ouch, poor Razz! From that photo it looks like Razz has a deep ulcerated wound that is likely infected. Razz should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as she likely needs to be put on antibiotics to treat that wound. I hope this helps and she feels better soon!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Bunnies can commonly get upper respiratory tract infections that manifest as runny eyes, nose, and sneezing. If he is also having difficulty breathing, I would also worry about pneumonia. I would encourage your friend to take their bunny to the vet, who can check for infection and prescribe the right medications to treat him. Sometimes eye problems can be related to dental issues as well, so I would make sure the vet takes a good look at his teeth. I hope this helps, and that bunny starts feeling better soon!

Thanks for reaching out about Thumper and including photos. By the description and swelling on the right side of the face, a dental abscess is highly suspicious. The dental disease is making it difficult for Thumper to eat, therefore loosing weight. A veterinary visit is recommended, the sooner the better. Rarely do antibiotics solve this problem, might requiring some surgery or tooth extraction. Good luck.

It would probably be a good idea to have him examined but allow him to calm down first. Hopefully, the blood is just a result of mild trauma. The veterinarian will be able to determine the need for further diagnostics based on exam.
