My hamster has a bulging eye for 3 weeks. Is it an emergency?

Hello I have a question on what is wrong with my hamsters eye here a few photos I tried to take bye it looks like some of those bulging eye pictures online it been there for a while like 3 weeks maybe or more I’m not sure what to do.I read that I usually happens when you hold to tightly in the back of their neck with we might have done trying to find a better way to hold/grab her.Shes about 1&1/2 months old

This is an emergency and you have to take Chibi into a vet now. This is very painful, and he's been suffering for three weeks already. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

This is a medical emergency, and you absolutely have to take him into a vet immediately. This is known as proptosis, and it is is extremely painful. This will be why he's not eating. You cannot leave him in pain and leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My hamsters eye is very swollen and I'm do worried I have attached photo.
Poor Bebe! The photos are very hard to make out but I can see the really obvious swelling and what looks like damage to the top. I can't see enough to tell you exactly what is going on, but I suspect it is a traumatic injury, regardless, it needs immediate veterinary treatment. This will be very painful so will need pain relief and treatment if infection is present. If he is very tame you could soothe it with a cool tea bag before you get to the vet.

My hamster has a bulging eye in the socked with a little bit of redness above the eye. No vet will take my hamster in my area. Is this something that can be treated at home?
Although a picture of it would help to determine more specifically underlying cause, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. No need for any special treatment, any vet can do it (and they cannot refuse to take her).Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi my dwarf hamster, Aurora, has a lump just above her eyes and now her eyeball is swollen as well! At first her eyebrow area was pink and look scratched and now this occurred within 3-4 days. She shares her cage with another female hamster and somet
It looks like little Aurora has a proptosed eye. This may be entirely due to the swelling from the scratch or could have popped out from trauma. These type of injuries need treatment right away in order to save the eye. If left like this, it can cause significant damage to the outside of the eyeball and can swell or pop out even more. I recommend taking her to a veterinarian as soon as you can. For now, the best this you can do is try to keep the outside of the eye moist. If you have any antibiotic eye ointment in the house, then it would be best to put this over the eye. Otherwise, you can ask your local pharmacy for lubricating eye ointment. This will help protect the eye, while she is awaiting the vet appointment. Before applying the ointment, it would be best if you can flush the eye with saline for 30 seconds. This can also be found in the pharmacy. I hope that helps and Aurora gets better soon.

My 2 months old hamster has got one of his eye hurt. He is not able to close it and it also seems to he slightly bulged. Any suggested home remedy or he needs immediate vet attention?
If the eye is bulging and he can't close it then you should have him examined by your vet. I cannot offer you any home treatments for eye problems - those always need to be seen by a vet. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse very quickly.

I’m sorry to hear that Amber isn’t feeling well! I’m not able to advise on what may be causing the condition without seeing a photo, but a bulging eye is likely to be painful. She may be causing further trauma by scratching the area. I recommend carefully trimming Amber’s nails to prevent her from scratching the area. This may help along with the antibiotics.

It is difficult to say exactly what is causing Gordon's eye to be protruding without seeing him in person or a photo. This can be caused either by the eyeball itself being enlarged or something pushing the eyeball outwards from behind. The first case can be due to a very deep ulcer or a condition known as glaucoma, where excess fluid builds up in the eyeball. Something can be pushing the eye outwards, such as a mass or abscess (walled off infection). Gordon does need veterinary care to determine what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment. I recommend calling vet clinics in your area to see if they see hamsters. Some Petco stores may have a clinic associated with them. The red/brown staining you saw is likely porphyrin, which is a normal secretion from the tear glands, that is usually groomed off. The fact that it is present is an indication that Gordon is not grooming that side of his face as he should be. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Poor Honey! He could have have injured his eye, and you need to take him into the vet immediately. Any eye problem should be considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Best of luck.

Hello. So sorry that Humphrey is having this issue. My initial thought was that your salt solution you made was too strong. I think you may be seeing salt residue that is flaking now that it is dried on his skin. Can you give him a bath and see if that is the case? If not, then he will definitely need to see the vet. If it was just the salt, then you can continue to use that to wipe/treat the eye but make sure your ratio is correct: Put one cup of water and ½ teaspoon of salt into a pot. Put the lid on. Boil for 15 minutes with the lid on (set a timer). Set the pan aside until cooled to room temperature. Carefully pour the salt and water (normal saline) from the pan into a clean jar or bottle and put the lid on to keep bacteria out. If you opt to take him to your vet for an exam I would just take him in when your vet's office is open - you don't need to rush him to an emergency clinic. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
