My 11-week puppy has a 6-hour trip. Should I feed her beforehand?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 8 days old

We are going on holiday on the ferry and the total travel time will be 6 hours. I've seen many people suggest not feeding dogs before travel to avoid them defecating in the car but Luna will only be 11 weeks when we travel. How long would she be able to go without food

In a puppy this age, I would not be comfortable completely skipping a scheduled meal. I would suggest giving her a smaller-than-normal breakfast that morning, and then perhaps a snack once you arrive at your destination.
