Why is there blood in my 12-week-old puppy's poop? Is it serious?

Hi I have a jac chi puppy 12 weeks old I got him last week and I have worked and fled him he has his injection next week but the first day I got him I saw a bit of blood in his poo I spoke to pdsa I gave him dry food boiled chicken and I have seen blood a couple of times today is ur serious cos he eats and drinks well and runs around most of the day can u advise me please thanks

Albert is so cute! It could be intestinal worms causing the blood in his poop. He may need another dose of the medication to kill them. It usually takes at least two deworming treatments each given two weeks apart to kill all the worms. I would also have him checked out by a vet for this to be safe. I hope this helps!

In young puppies, intestinal worms are a very common cause of diarrhea, and it can lead to some blood in the diarrhea as well. You've done the right thing by giving Charlie Brown a deworming treatment, and given that he is eating drinking, as well as behaving normally, I would monitor him for now. The deworming treatment should start working soon, and hopefully will clear up the diarrhea. Should he stop eating and drinking, become very lethargic, or start vomiting, he will need to see a vet immediately as that could signify he is suffering from parvo.

My puppy is 12 weeks old is juat pooped with light blood in the poop what cab thka be?
That could be many things and the most common are parasites, viruses and bacteria over growth. I recommend to have Coco seen today by the veterinarian. Blood in the stool is never normal. Take in the stool sample to the appointment as the doctor will likely need to test it. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My 6 month old toy Aussie has poops with a bit of blood in them last week. This was after my friend had fed him cheese and chicken from a wrap, and my puppy was straining to poop a ton. I fed him chicken and rice for a couple days and it subsided.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be from straining to have a bowel movement or diarrhea. It could also be from intestinal parasites. I recommend taking a fresh stool sample to the vet so they can look for microscopic eggs. If found they can treat for the parasites and the blood. Good luck and kisses to Alfie!

My wee 6 and half week poppy it unwell been to vets last two day but he starting to have a wee bit of blood in his poo. What should we do
Poor Max! This blood in the poop could be due to intestinal worms, a foreign body, or something more serious such as parvovirus. Given that he has been unwell that past few days, I would be concerned that he could have parvovirus. Parvo is a life threatening infection of young puppies that does not have a cure, and can only be treated symptomatically. I'm not sure if the vet did a parvo snap test, but I would recommend taking him into the vet now for an exam. The vet can determine what is causing the blood in his feces, and how best to treat it.

Hi there. Poor Ruby! It definitely sounds like she's teething-puppies go through this stage of putting everything in their mouths the same as humans. Since Ruby is not 4 months or more yet, she is still not considered fully vaccinated. If her vaccines were home vaccines and are from a store over the counter-sometimes they are improperly stored and provide poor immunity. Any time there is blood in the stool it warrants a trip to your veterinarian right away, as your puppy can be very sick when showing this symptom. They will probably also perform a fecal test to rule out any parasites. My best to you and Ruby and I hope his helps!

Poor Sophia! The loose stool and blood could be due to many conditions including the medication, the worms, a viral infection, bacterial over growth, parasites (coccidia and giardia) or even something more sinister. Unfortunately it's impossible to know which one for sure caused the problem. Any time blood is present however, you should be concerned since it indicates severe inflammation and disruption of the intestinal mucosa. Additionally, certain types of worms and parasites can infect human. It's very important to know the exact parasite status of pets to prevent humans from being infected. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian today. Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth and then give appropriate treatment. Other diagnostics may be recommended as well. Hi I have a 7 month old frenchie. I wormed him yesterday. This morning at 6am he puked the bile in his tummy & has a soft stool with some blood. After he had a runny stool with blood & blood began to drip from his rectum. There appeared to be 2 worms
Trust your vet, your vet is correct. This could be caused by the worms, especially hook worms. Your are doing everything necessary in this case. THe worms are dead now (repeat the worming 2-3 weeks after this one), and antibiotics are neccessary because there was bleeding and bacteria from the gut could possibly enter the rest of the body. The antibiotic should catch and kill those bacteria. As long as he is in good form, eating, drinking and playing, all should be well.

My puppy has blood in her poo. She’s 11-12 weeks old.
This is usually dietary related and if no other signs are present at this stage, the problem could be managed by start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If that is the case antibiotics may be needed. Hi ive just bout home 6-7 week old puppy thats had her vaccination done two day ago, and the problem is when she takes a pop the last little bit has blood, should I be worried
This usually indicates damage in the rectum, or anus. This can happen normally due to straining, or scooting. It can also indicate an infection, or parasite infestation. It's difficult to know how concerning this is without seeing it, but if the pup is otherwise acting normal, then I would not be too worried yet. I would be more concerned if she also had diarrhea with the blood. This can indicate a severe infection and should be evaluated by a vet as soon as possible. If the feces looks normal with just a little blood at the end, then I don't see a need to rush her to the vet. I would recommend observing her for now. If there continues to be blood in her poop, or she has diarrhea, vomiting, lack of appetite, or decrease in activity, then I would reccomend taking her for an evaluation by a vet as soon as possible. As long as there is no more bloody stool or other issues (lethargy, loss of appetite, etc), then he is likely fine. It may have been some passing stress that caused the bloody stool. If you see it again, submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Feed a bland diet again in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to the regular diet. See your veterinarian sooner if Achu develops vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.
