Dog has a painful leg knot and can't walk. What are low-cost vet options?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 95 lbs

My dog stopped using is back L leg yesterday. He was waking a little funny before but his activity hasn’t changed. He has a “knot” on the upper side of that leg where the other leg does not. He does not mind me touching any part of his leg but when I move his whole leg up and down he starts to whine. He is still moving around and eating the same. The 1st and 3rd pics are of the “knot” from the back. Is there anything I can do at home for him? I don’t have a lot of $ to pay for a vet visit..

Clinics who are out in more rural areas (rent/property tax is less), don't have updated equipment or are supplemented to be able to offer low cost services may exist in your area and I recommend to look into them. You may also look into financing through Care Credit or Scratch Pay. Lastly, you may call the local humane society to ask if they offer/know of any low cost solutions. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I recommend to have Kumo examined by the veterinarian today. 'Knots' associated with lameness are worrisome for bone tumors or fractures. It's best to play it safe. The vet will also give Kumo pain medication. I hope this helps.
