Is my senior dog's vomiting and diarrhea from human stomach flu?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 58 lbs

My 11 yo pitmix has had two vomiting episodes and no formed stool for 24 hours. She will take bone broth amd boiled chicken. She was not exposed to anything. Can dogs get a stomach flu? Three of sick humans in the house just got over stomach flu. Ive given her imodium to try to stop the diarrhea. Any advice?

Be careful with Immodium; you can give too much and it can cause serious problems. I don't suggest you give any more. Typically dogs do not get a human stomach flu but I won't say it's impossible. Since her vomiting and diarrhea have been going on for more than 24 hours you should get her to a vet for an exam. Remember, at her age she is about 65 in human years. It is not wise to just chalk her symptoms up to a stomach flu when she could have something serious going on inside. Please get her to a vet for an exam and some testing.
