My cat ate a plastic grocery bag handle but seems fine. What now?

My cat Lani may have eaten the handle of a thin plastic grocery bag. When I came home from work I was a little late feeding her dinner and noticed bag missing piece. Noticed in the other room it looked like part of the bag she maybe threw up. She ate dinner no problem drank water and had BM at some point earlier today. Seems fine at this time but I am worried that could change if she ate half the plastic handle of the thin grocery plastic.

If she did eat this plastic handle, yes it can cause problems, but given that she is acting normally, I would keep an eye on her for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, or lethargy, then I would be worried and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! If this just happened within the last 2 hours, you could consider taking him to a veterinarian to try to induce vomiting to retrieve this piece of plastic. Otherwise, watch him closely for signs of a gastrointestinal obstruction such as inappetence, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. If observed, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this may need medical help. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If the piece was small he will likely pass it. Watch for vomiting, lethargy and not wanting to eat. check his stools with gloves for the piece of bag so you know when to not worry. If he gets sick then he should be seen by a Vet. Good luck

I left a plastic bag with cat treats on the table. The bag is missing and so are almost all the treats. I have no idea which cat did it. They're both eating and drinking normally. Should I be worried?
The one thing I would be worried about is that one of them are the bag as well. This could cause an intestinal obstruction. I would monitor them for now but if either one begins to vomit or is lethargic, i would recommend going to the veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. As long as she is comfortable and has no pain or discomfort eating or breathing I would watch and wait, monitoring closely for any signs or symptoms of GI upset or obstruction. Most small pieces of soft plastic will be vomited or passed uneentfully; small frequent meals can encourage bowel movement and the addition of some laxative hairball paste may help also

My cat just ate a long Yogurt plastin wrapper, I am very worried. What should I do?
Hello. Without knowing how large the plastic wrapper was, you might want to have Coco seen by your veterinarian to induce him to throw the wrapper up. I’m guessing it was a plastic wrapper - if it was small then it would probably pass without any problems. If it is larger then it might cause vomiting, diarrhea or even an obstruction. I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian if Ozzy vomits, develops diarrhea or has a decrease in appetite.

At this point, you can probably just monitor him and see how he does. We typically like to induce vomiting within an hour after eating the foreign material. Since he is acting fine and doesn't seem to be having problems then it may just pass through without a problem. You could call your vet and let them know that he ate something abnormal and make sure they don't want to examine him and/or take an x-ray. Hopefully, he chewed up the bag into smaller pieces and it will pass without a problem. Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and decreased appetite.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that this was causing her an obstruction and now she has thrown it up and defecated some of it and has thankfully relieved her obstruction. That is good as surgery is needed in most cases as they are not able to pass it or throw it up on their own. You can continue to monitor her for signs of an on-going obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal pain, inappetence or lethargy and if observed, have her examined then as soon as possible as that may represent an emergency. Otherwise, if she is back to her normal self and no more symptoms show, she may be ok. Good luck!
