Older cockatiel with closed, red eyes. What to do if no vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Female

Hi, my cockatiel is on the older side and today most of the day his eyes have been closed or half closed. They might look a little red compared to the other cockatiels I have. He is eating and pipping fine, not sure what to do as there is no vet near me (93555) that looks at birds that I've been able to find. Any ideas on what I can do? there have been no new smells or allergies around that I can think of. I hope my pictures attached, it doesnt look like its working :(

Crestwood Animal Hospital in your area is listed as possibly seeing exotics/birds so you may want to give them a call if Rococo continues to act ill. In the meantime, keeping him warm in a separated hospital cage from your other birds, and eating and drinking may help with any illness. If the eye has any discharge, keeping it clean with a warm washcloth and free of debris may also help. You can also look for parasites or other skin issues around the eye that may need to be treated.
