My dog has a dry patch on her nose. Is it dry skin or a skin disorder?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 9 months old | 14.6 lbs

I’ve noticed a dry patch on my dogs nose and I’m not sure what it is. Is it just dry skin? She had issues with her ears and mouth not too long ago and the vet said it could just be dry skin or some other skin disorder, could this be the same thing? Her ears and mouth haven’t flared up, it’s just her nose

Lesions on dog's noses can be dry skin, allergies, hyperkeratosis or autoimmune disease. At home you can try giving her an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets but it may not correct the underlying cause. This can however improve over all skin health. There are two brands of food, Royal Canin and Nutro, which are aimed at skin health and they may help as well but again, they may not affect the underlying problem. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
