My cat has a severe burn and swollen eye. Can I treat it at home?

My cat got burned my a wired and has 3rd degree burn the vet gave us antibiotics to give him but it’s been like a month and he is not getting better we even got betadine for his burn to heal but he still smells terrible and now his eye is swollen shut is there anything I can do at home to make him feel more comfortable?

No, this cannot be treated at home at this point in time. I'm very concerned that Manley's eye is swollen shut. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. He needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

His eye does look swollen! He could have injured his eye or he could have an eye infection. The eye is such an important and delicate structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet immediately to diagnose what is causing his eye to be swollen so it can be treated.

There is nothing you can do at home for it, your cat absolutely has to see a vet immediately. I would be concerned there is damage to his eye, and that needs to be examined so that he doesn't lose his vision. In addition, he will need antibiotics to treat the infection. The abscess needs to be drained and flushed sterilely, or else more infection can be introduced to that area. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. My cat Phoebe (about 14 years old) often has issues with her eye becoming red and watery but it goes away in a day or two. However, two days ago she had it again, but afterwards I noticed a small sore above her eye. Today there is a pink area as well
The swelling is unusual and I would be concerned there is some sort of infection of tumor underneath. I don't recommend to treat this at home and instead recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. That's the only way to accurately access this lesion and determine if anything needs to be done about it. You do need to make sure she is not rubbing at the area and she may need to wear an elizabethan collar. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi. One of the feral cats I feed has a eye infection. Her eye is shut, not very swollen, not oozing any pus. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I can't afford to take her to the vet, and she won't let me near her. Is there anything I can do??
Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Unfortunately there is not much you can effectively do back home without veterinary assistance. A picture of it would help to give you further advices. We found a kitten with swelling around the eye, covering the eye and sticks out about a half inch. WY wife wants to keep him. Is he in danger of losing his eye? We can't afford a vet, what should we do?
No home care options are appropriate here. This kitten needs emergency veterinary care immediately to reduce the pressure around the eye and reduce the pain and swelling he is suffering. HE will most likely needthe eye to be removed in order to prevent ongoing pain, it is highly unlikely any sight can be restored at this stage. Please consider surrendering him to the local humane society to get him the help he so desperately needs.

My cats eye is puffy and swelled shut and has stuff leaking out of it. He won't let me touch him, it appears very sore? Is there something I can do for him here or does this require a vet visit?
I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done at home, Oscar has to see a vet asap. You are correct that it can quickly cause death, so getting him treatment from a vet right away is vital. Typically there will be a vet on call for emergencies in the middle of the night. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I would call around local clinics or search the websites of clinics to find a vet on a call to see him now.

Hello doctor! I have a request. Kindly help me out. Someone has beaten up my cat in her left eye. And she is in pain. She is unable to close her eyes. And there is a swelling. It seems as if someone has pulled her eyes out. She is a female cat.
Yes, it does look like she suffered some trauma to that eye. From the photo, it looks like the eye probably cannot be saved. Kitty should see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam. My cats left eye is swollen shut more than any photos I can find on the Internet. I am worried it looks much more severe than anything else I’ve seen. It is Sunday and All vets are closed.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Sabian! I am concerned about his eye and I suggest you take him to an open 24 hr Veterinary Emergency hospital. When it comes to eye issues it is best to have the pet seen sooner than later. Possible causes are: corneal ulcer, glaucoma, ruptured globe, severe conjunctivitis, tumor, or tooth root abscess. He needs to have the eye examined, stained for an ulcer and possibly the pressure measured with in the eye. He would nee a safe eye medication to be prescribed based on the cause of the swelling.
