My puppy still has diarrhea after antibiotics. What should I do next?

My pup has had loose stools/ diarrhea for over 3 weeks. He’s had antibiotic shot as well as oral antibiotics over 5 days. It’s not gotten any better.

Poor pup. At this point I would have him tested for intestinal parasites. He may have a parasite that is causing the loose stool. I would also consider having him tested for Giardia, which is another parasite he could have that requires a special test for. If intestinal parasites are ruled out, then the next step would be a fecal culture, which is often a special test sent to the lab. Until you can get Max back in to the vet, I would at least start probiotics to see if this can improve the loose stool somewhat before going back in. I would recommend Culturelle (found over the counter at your local pharmacy) or Fortiflora (found online) should be given for 7-14 days to be effective in most pets.
