My pet has a limp foot after injury. Is it broken? Heal or vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

My niece freaked out and threw my Abby to the ground and now her back left foot is limp. I feel so awful for her and she cried for a little while as I held her. She was laying in her bed for a long while but now she’s eating and moving around normal. How do I know if her foot is broken? Can it heal on its own or will I for sure need a vet?

Thanks for reaching out about Abby and including photos. The only way to definitively determine if it is fractures is to have a radiograph taken. It could heal on its own, but unlikely to be straight and could become more complicated if left un-stabilized. A veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
