My dog won't eat or drink after Trazodone. What should I do?

My dog was just checked out by his vet on Friday and was cleared of any illnesses or worms. He has high anxiety and is on Terazodone which his vet said we could give him a whole pill when we go to work in the mornings. We tried this out on Saturday and our dog hasn’t been the same. He’s not eating and barely drinking. His vet doesn’t have hours today and we don’t know what to do for him.

That's not normal at all. Try offering him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice soaked in gently warmed, low sodium chicken broth. If he refuses to eat that, have him seen by his vet in the morning. If you are very concerned, you can take him into an ER vet now.

He may still be a little nauseous from the anesthesia or medications that he received. Call your vet and give him/her an update. Your vet may want to prescribe an anti-nausea medication to see if that helps. Continue to offer him fresh water and you could also try some boiled chicken and white rice to see if he will eat that.

Poor Charlie! It's good that she is drinking water, so she slowly may be feeling better. I would try offering her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day. If she is still refusing to eat by tomorrow morning, then I would take her into a vet right away.

My dog started acting weird this morning, she won't eat or drink and is being lazy. She hardly gets up, is this an emergency?
If she isn't throwing up or having diarrhea, I wouldn't say this in an emergency at this point. I recommend monitoring her for now, and taking her to the vet first thing in the morning if she still isn't eating or drinking. You can try to tempt her to eat with boiled white meat chicken (no bone) and white rice in small amounts. If she does start vomiting and having diarrhea, I would take her into your vet right away.

I recently adopted a puppy to train as my service companion, this morning she was feeling alittle under the weather had thrown up alittle clear liquid and grass but she was still playing and being her silly self so I didn't worry just figured she ate
It is very concerning that Rozwell doesn't want to eat or drink. Offer her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. If she refuses to eat that, take her into the vet as soon as they open in the morning.

I have 5 dogs, 1 of my dogs started coughing after I gave him a trazodone, Rx from vet. His beathing is ok until he starts hacking. Just started today, it's Saturday evening. What can I do until Monday?
Give him some moistened kibble or canned food to push down anything that may be stuck in his throat. Keeping him quiet with minimal excitement will reduce the coughing. There is no safe anti coughing medication that I recommend for dogs. With rest overnight his throat may be soothed and hopefully the cough will resolve. Otherwise take him in on Monday. If he is unable to swallow food then there may be something stuck in his throat and that would be an emergency that needs to be taken care of immediately. We just moved from a house with a yard to an apt and no yard. It was a two day drive and we had to give my dog trazadone for the trip. Since we got to the apt. , she has barely drank or eaten and follows us around continuously. How long will it take
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! In my experience, this process can take up to 1 week. However, while decreased appetite is common, it usually does not last that long. If this appears to last longer than 3 days, I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Make sure that she is drinking water at least as if not, she could become dehydrated. If not drinking water, have her evaluated sooner. Good luck and have a great day!

My dog wont eat after i gave him worm medicine what should i do?
It is quite possible that he is nauseous from the medicine or he had a lot of worms which are now dying and that is causing him a tummy ache. Don;t feed him for 12 to 24 hours and then offer him some bland food such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken. Feed him small portions often. When he has regained his appetite he should be fine. There is a possibility that he will get diarrhea as well for a day or two as the body is going to try to get rid of the worms as quickly as possible.

I am afraid, this could indeed be a side effect of Trazodone. The manufacturer lists the following possible side effectsÆ Trazodone Side Effects in Dogs Lethargy, Sedation, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Panting, Hyperactivity, Shaking, Restlessness. I suggest you contact your vet and ask about dosage adjustment.

My dog is a Bichon Shitzu mix and is 7 years old. He has bad anxiety from thunderstorms and will shake. One time we left him in his cage on the 4th of July while we were away and came back to him chewing at his metal cage and needing dental surgery.
Hi there. I would be concerned with Hershey developing serotonin syndrome with concurrent use of trazadone and fluoxetine especially if you are giving them together often. It has to do with how the drugs are metabolized in the body and what receptors they work on. Side effects can be as you have listed, as with diarrhea, labored fast breathing, etc. I would try calling your doctor to discuss changing the dosages or weaning off the trazadone altogether.
