My cat has a mass, IBD. Should I stop Flagyl and keep Prednisolone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 4 months old

My 3 Yeats old cat has a big mass between colon and intestine, Dr says can't remove because it's to big and it's not FIP or cancer, he says maybe IBD, she's taking 1 ml flagyl twice day and 1 ml prednisolone twice day, she was better for 5 weeks but now she's back to lethargy, sleeping all day and night, is throwing up again. I can't pay more x ray or labs. I just wonder if I stop flagyl and keep prednisolone is going to make her feel better?

Hello. I am so sorry for your concerns about Mia. I would not stop the Flagyl without talking to your veterinarian. In addition to its antibiotic properties, this medication can have some anti-inflammatory effect especially in the gut. She may also need some anti-nausea medication like Cerenia to keep her comfortable. Good luck & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
