Dog's skin issues: Is my medicated shampoo effective or do I bathe more?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 11 months and 23 days old | 28 lbs

Dr. Hinson, one more. Sorry for the questions. My vet gave me dechra shampoo a long time ago for when mía was having skin issues but it does not seem to be helping. Do you think I should continue the dechra brand? I even give it to the groomer every month and it doesn’t seem to be helping. Also, they get groomed once a month, head to toe, am I just not bathing them enough? They always look so shinny and fluffy that people think I get them groomed all of the time.

The key to using the medicated shampoo is contact time. After lathering, the shampoo needs 10-15 minutes of contact time with the skin/coat before rinsing. The Dechra brand is fine. When there is an active skin issue bathing should be twice a week with using the spray or mousse in between. Once looking better, you can decrease frequency of the products.
