My 70lb pit bull ate cooked onions. Is it toxic for him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 70 lbs

My dog at about a cup of stuffing with cooked onions. I am worried this may affect him. He is a pit bull of about 70 lbs.

It takes quite a few onions to cause toxicity - a dog Drake's size would need to eat several onions to see any changes on lab work. Onions can cause changes in the red blood cells that result in anemia, and garlic is more toxic on an ounce by ounce basis. It's possible that Drake could have some mild stomach upset if he does not typically eat table foods, so if he vomits or develops diarrhea you should see a vet.
